Project Overview

Completed in 2017 on Italy’s iconic Amalfi Coast, Villa Alta Costiera (meaning “High Coast” in Italian) captures the spirit of Mediterranean elegance through a refined architectural vision. Tasked solely with the architectural component, EPDA embraced the challenge of designing a home that honored the heritage of the region while introducing clean, contemporary lines.

Project Details

Designing on the Amalfi Coast comes with both beauty and constraint — from steep terrain and heritage considerations to stringent local planning regulations. EPDA approached the brief with sensitivity and precision, creating a structure that both complements and elevates its natural surroundings.

Inspired by traditional Mediterranean proportions, the villa features carefully placed apertures that maximize sea views and natural ventilation, while the layout makes full use of the terraced site. The architecture is defined by crisp white surfaces, arched details, and stone elements, reimagined through a modern lens.

Despite the geographic and regulatory challenges, EPDA successfully navigated the complexities to deliver a design that feels rooted yet forward-thinking — a timeless architectural response to one of the world’s most picturesque settings.
